Privacy Policy

Effective October 11, 2026 · Updated October 16, 2026 · Applies to the Service League iOS app, theserviceleague.com, Verified Service and the Service League organization and court dashboards.

Service League helps volunteers find, join and get credit for community service, and helps nonprofits and clubs run it. To do that we need some information about you. This policy explains what we collect, why, who sees it, and the choices you have. We keep it in plain English on purpose.

1. Who we are

"Service League", "we" and "us" means the Service League team that operates the Service League mobile app, the website at theserviceleague.com and the organization dashboard (together, the "Service"). You can reach us at info@theserviceleague.com.

2. What we collect

CommunicationsEmails or support requests you send us and our replies.You.
Organization usersIf you manage an organization: your name, work email, organization details, facility addresses and the documents your organization chooses to require from volunteers. You, through the dashboard.

We do not collect payment information, government ID numbers, precise background-check results or health information. If an organization requires a waiver or similar document from you, the organization — not Service League — decides what it asks for and is responsible for it.

Verified Service (court-ordered community service)

If you use Verified Service to complete community service a court ordered, we also hold your case details: the court or probation department, the type of court, the cause or case number you enter, the number of hours ordered, the start and due dates, the weekly hour limit, the name and contact details of the court officer you choose to add, and your own notes. We never ask for, and you should not enter, the offense, a plea, a sentence or any other detail of the case beyond what is listed here. These details come from you, or from the court if your court opens the case for you or links it with its court code.

We use case details to show you where you stand against the order, to produce the timesheet and completion letter you give to the court, and to let the court that linked your case see your verified hours. Who sees them: you; the officers of the court your case is linked to; and Service League staff when needed to run the Service. Host organizations you volunteer with never see your cause number or court notes. If you leave "share with hosts" on, a host where you have booked can see that you are completing court-ordered hours, the court's name, the hours ordered, your due date and your verified hours — enough to confirm your shifts and issue a completion letter. You can turn that off in your case settings.

When a completion letter or activity record is issued, we store a copy of exactly what was printed, with a verification code. Anyone with that code can look the document up at theserviceleague.com/verify and see what is printed on it — your name, the court, the cause number, the hours and the shifts — so a clerk can confirm the paper matches our record. Treat the code like the document itself. Case details and issued documents are kept while the case is open and for seven years after it closes, because courts can ask for them later; you may ask us to delete them sooner once the court has accepted your paperwork.

3. Location, in detail

Service League uses your location only when you check in or out of a shift, to verify you're on site. We never track you in the background.

4. How we use information

We do not sell your personal information and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

5. Who we share it with

Organizations you volunteer with

When you request a shift, the organization that listed it can see your name, email, phone number (if you provided one), your request, approval status and attendance for that shift, and any documents you submitted to them. They use this to run the shift and keep their own volunteer records.

Community-listed opportunities

Some opportunities in the app are public listings we show from other volunteer websites, such as a food bank's or volunteer center's own sign-up site. When you book one of these in the app, we ask whether we may share your name and the shift with the host organization. If you agree, we email that organization from The Service League with your name and the shift or time you booked, so they know you are coming; if you later cancel, we let them know that too. We do not give the host your email address, phone number, location readings or other records, and we send nothing if you do not agree.

Messages between you and the host go through us. The host replies to our email; we keep the reply with your booking and show it to you in the app (and send a push notification if you allow them). When you answer in the app, we email your message to the host from The Service League. We keep these messages with the booking for as long as we keep the booking, and use them only to run the conversation and keep the service safe. If a host asks us to stop emailing them, we do.

Some hosts, such as The Salvation Army, schedule volunteers in their own system. After you book one of their shifts with us, we open that host's own sign-up page for the same shift so you can register with them directly. We do not create an account for you there or send them your information; anything you enter on their page is governed by their privacy policy. You can tell us when you have finished so we can stop reminding you, and we may send one reminder if you haven't.

Teams, leaderboards and competitions

If you join a team, other members of that organization's teams and leaderboards can see your first name and last initial, your avatar, and your shift counts and hours for that competition. Organization-wide or club-versus-club standings show team totals, not individual records, unless the organization chooses to display a "top volunteers" list.

Service providers

We rely on trusted providers that process information on our behalf and under our instructions: Google Firebase (sign-in, database, file storage, hosting, cloud functions, push notifications and crash reporting), Resend (sending and receiving the emails between us and host organizations) and Apple (app distribution and push notifications). These providers may process data in the United States.

Legal and safety

We may share information if required by law, to respond to a lawful request, to protect the safety of volunteers, organizations or the public, or in connection with a merger, acquisition or reorganization of Service League (we'll tell you if that happens).

6. How long we keep it

7. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live (for example California and other U.S. states with privacy laws), you may have rights to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal information, and to not be discriminated against for exercising those rights. Email info@theserviceleague.com and we will respond within the time the law requires. We may need to verify your identity first.

8. Security

Information is transmitted over encrypted connections and stored with providers that maintain industry-standard safeguards. Access to volunteer information is limited to the organizations you work with and the Service League team members who need it to support you. No system is perfectly secure; if we learn of a breach affecting your information we will notify you as the law requires.

9. Children and students

The Service is intended for people aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13; if you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we will delete it. Volunteers under 18 should use the Service with the consent of a parent, guardian, school or club program, and the organizations they volunteer with may have their own age requirements.

10. Changes to this policy

We'll update this policy as the Service grows. When we make a material change we will post the new version here with a new effective date and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email.
